For older adults who are finding the general running of their home along with the cooking and shopping, cooking onerous chores, a residential home may be just the answer. The home also provides the opportunity for companionship, and an opportunity to make new friends.

Residential Living in a Mowana home includes a private room (residents are encouraged to customise them to make them their own), meals, laundry and cleaning services. Each home has communal lounges, dining rooms and outdoor areas where residents can socialise with one another, and their families and friends.

Residents benefit from living in a secure environment and easily accessible health and carer services, resulting in significant peace of mind for both the older adults and their families. 

Should permanent frail care be needed then the residential clients have priority access to the spectrum of Mowana's care services.

For older adults who require help with some of the routines of daily living as well as assistance with access to medical care on an ongoing basis, we offer Assisted Living. As frail care is a step too far, a carer comes alongside the older adult to assist them regularly. The number of hours or frequency of visits will vary as they are based on the specific needs of the older adult.  

This intervention can impact the quality of life of the individual to such an extent that they can return to a more active lifestyle and reduce the risk of a deterioration that could result in the need for frail care.

Respite care may be required after an illness, or an injury, and is usually associated with a fixed, short-term period of assistance to expedite recovery.  

Booking accommodation at one of our facilities will ensure that the older adult gets the care and medical attention needed and will allow time for the individual to heal and regain their strength whilst relaxing and enjoying the community and activities. (They may enjoy the lifestyle so much, that they may decide to stay with us!)

Taking care of oneself, mentally, physically, and emotionally, in addition to tending to one’s living environment, can become overwhelming. It can be draining to arrange meals, manage schedules of medications, dress wounds and stay in touch with family and friends. In this case, then it may be necessary to consider a different lifestyle, one where someone else can come alongside and where the older adult can enjoy their life without having to worry about these day-to-day activities. At this point, frail care may be the best choice for the entire family.

Our personalised care means that our residents are both happier and safer, we adjust the kind and level of support to suit each individual’s needs and preferences. We strive to keep each person in their best possible health allowing them to get the most out of each day, and reassuring both family and friends that everything possible is being done.

From a clinical perspective, there is a focus on mobility as this can reduce the need for some medications and painkillers. The increased mobility also reduces the prevalence of bedsores.

Whilst a new resident may arrive frail, in a wheelchair, or with a walker, as they become part of the community they feel connected and, with the assistance of both staff and residents, they join in, and in many instances, become increasingly independent.

Residents are encouraged to pursue their interests. Family visits and outings are encouraged with no time restrictions.

It is very distressing to have to acknowledge that loss of memory, language, problem-solving and other thinking abilities are severe enough to interfere with daily life. Our facilities are designed to create an environment that ensures the safety and well-being of each individual. There are a variety of security systems in place including camera surveillance, twin beams, and electric fencing around the perimeter of the facilities as well as security guards at entrances to ensure the safety of our residents.
